Rescue Fever

Updates for the week:

1.  Goldie, who is now "Monkey", is in dog heaven.  He is the happiest and most comfortable that I have ever seen him.  His new home is in the mountains overlooking Hollywood.  I have to thank his new mom, Katie, for being incredibly patient with him.  And, of course, I thank his new dad Mark and his pit bull soul mate, Bunny.  Goldie lives in the "Melrose Place" of dogs.  Upstairs lives his friends Buddy and Burt--a Dachshund and an English Bulldog.  Katie's human friend Julie is a dream too; she (and her boyfriend) have helped every step of the way.  Click on the Pet Expo photo gallery to your left to see pictures of everyone!

2. I've succumbed to my vices and bailed another dog from the South LA shelter.  I promised to give myself a break...oops.  I'm saving all the details for a larger post, but her name in the shelter was Trinity.  She is 7 years old and the ugliest cutie-pie on the planet.

Here is her shelter photo:

Feeling For The Dogs

Dog adoptions and conventions are particularly emotional experiences for me.  Saturday and Sunday I spent all day with Goldie, while hundreds (or thousands?) of people walked by our rescue group's booth at the Pet Expo.  I'm always happy to answer questions about the dogs.  Kids like to pet them and some folks like to take a glance and move on.  It's hard sometimes not to feel rejected when people breeze by the dogs as if they weren't there.  I'll feel like an idiot saying, "This is Goldie..." and before I finish, the person looks away and is gone.

Monkey Brains

Goldie met the nicest young woman today at the Pet Expo in Costa Mesa.  She has taken him to her home (near Runyon Canyon) for a "trial run" with her pit bull named Bunny.  Let's cross our fingers.  Goldie has been awesome at the adoption events.  He charms even the toughest pit bull critics.  Now, he needs the happy home that he deserves.  Thank you everyone for your support.  Let's hope this works out well!  ((They have been calling him Monkey because he runs around like a little monkey))

The Return Of The King

Oh Goldie, Goldie.  You're just too cute for La Puente to handle.  I'm glad you had a nice vacation there while I was in Boston.  Now it's time for us to return to adoptions and find you a real home.  I guess I shouldn't have written you a love letter before I finalized your adoption.

Dear Goldie,

I love you.  Good luck at your new home in La Puente.  I will be checking up on you.  I'll never let anyone hurt you.  You will always be my baby.  Thank you for being such a lovable goose.
Love,
Jon
