Pigs in a Blanket
This picture was taken last night of Sunny, Jasper and me. We snuggled until breakfast this morning. (I'm dog-sitting for Jasper while his parents are in Las Vegas).
I'm thrilled to be a featured blog on Typepad's homepage. I love all the new visitors that have left comments and e-mailed me--I especially love getting sent pictures of your dogs!
In case you are new to my blog, I graduated from USC last year and have been dedicating myself full time to rescuing dogs. The blog started with my rescue dog named Goldie and I shared his story as a way to help raise funds for his expensive vet bills. It took over 3 months, but he finally found his loving "forever" home and his new name is Monkey. My latest rescue is a 5 year old yodeling pit bull named Talula. She is quite a colorful character and it has been a challenge to place her because she is not a young "designer" dog. I've probably spent well over $3000 since January on rescue related expenses, but I've been lucky to recoup about half of that from friends, family, and generous web surfers.
I'm currently developing a small business online dedicated to connecting pet owners with quality pet care providers. I hope to have it up and running by mid-July. I'm also looking for a business mentor in Los Angeles to help me dive into the pet product market. It's time to start earning a living!
Thank you so much for visiting my site and please leave your comments and don't hesitate to e-mail me. If you care to donate to the doggies, you can use the Amazon.com honor system or Paypal on the right hand side of the page.
Best wishes,
Jon

How refreshing to see an individual like Jon dedicate his life to an altruistic cause. Not that there is anything wrong with making money - mind you. Cash pays the vet bills and for any of us that have rescued animals, there are usually lots of vet bills.
Who was it that said that the value of a nation could be measured by how that society treats their animals?
Good work Jon. We (in Atlanta) will spread the news about your work, your blog, and your need for support.

Thank you Donna! I'm visiting Atlanta in July for a pet convention, but I'm not sure of the details yet.

You are an inspiration! I've just begun this journey to help dogs (three months) in my area. Currently I'm working with a brand new non profit organization who plans to build my city's first no kill shelter. I'm accepting donations via my site to contribute to the building of this shelter. As a new dog owner, it is refreshing to see so many people dedicate to helping these animals. I hope to be as successful as you've been so far and I hope your success continues to grow!

I live in remote Africa and it is so refreshing to see someone who still cares about animals. I studied Animal Ethics in the states and my views have strengthened so much after seeing daily animal abuses upfront. Keep up the good work and awareness raising.

what you are doing is so admirable, Im a student and my family never stood too well with finances but I always try to help the north shore animal league because that is where I adopted my milo. Sometimes its kind of funny refering to my dog ...well, as a dog, because he is so much more than that, they become your friends and your family. Thats why i hold much respect in you and your cause because without you, someone would be without a 'friend"..and that kind of friend is forever.

Hi Jon,
My sister (Sherrie Cutler) just told me about your website and I am so happy to see your pictures and read your stories about these beautiful rescued dogs that have, thanks to your hard work, found their 'forever home.' I know first hand the sadness and disappointment that comes with trying to save and then adopt out cats and dogs. I have been doing this for some 15 years, on my own like you, for cats. My proudest moment came once when I turned a guy down who wanted to adopt a stray cat from me (he was going to keep the cat outside to take care of his rat problem!!) and this guy said to me, "I can adopt a child from the State of Florida easier than I can adopt a cat from you." Keep up your spirits and keep up your good work, Jon. Bravo!! If you do think pet food, for cats kidney failure is the predominant cause of death in cats. I don't understand why these pet foods don't make cat food directed to this market! On a personal note, I like to think that I am one of the reasons you are here today doing these wonderful things for animals.....I introduced your Mother and Father at a dinner party at my home in NYC. I also grew up down the street from your Mother and Aunt Pat.

I don't understand why pet food companies don't make cat food directed to this market!
