Vertigo
Bette Davis stayed at my friend's condo while I was in Las Vegas. She was left alone for just a minute or two when she walked onto the balcony and fell from the fourth story to the ground below. She was still breathing and didn't look injured. They rushed her to my veterinarian where she had x-rays done and her heart checked. By some miracle, they couldn't find a single thing wrong with her. She came home that night and when I arrived from my trip, I couldn't tell that anything bad had happened.
I guess this is a lesson to everyone to always watch where your pet is (especially a friend's pet). In a split second, they could be gone. Hopefully, Bette will be okay...but she's not out of the clear yet. Doctors and their tests aren't infallible.
Does anyone else have a cautionary tale they'd like to share? E-mail me at savedogs@gmail.com and I can post your story on the blog.

Poor Bette! It is a miracle that she is okay! My thoughts and prayers are with her.

Omigosh! I'm so glad she's all right. To have fallen four stories!

I ate some of mommy's medicine yesterday, and it was this big deal, and they rushed me to the emergency clinic...I did feel bad 'cause mom and dad were really scared, but I'm okay now. Thank goodness they did all the right things and took good care of me. Come visit my site!

I have a little blind cat named Kiwi. I used to live in an apartment on the third floor that had a deck off the back. The cats (Kiwi was one of three at the time) were allowed out on the deck, because they liked to take fresh air, and they made no attempts at escape. However, one day I came out just in time to see Kiwi slipping backwards off a table and through the deck rails. I was able to grab her by her little front legs and save her from the 3-story fall. It was terrifying to me, and I was so glad I walked out on the deck when I did! I don't know what caused her to slip and almost fall, but after that I put up something to block rails so none of the cats could accidentally slip through. Kiwi is 9 years old now and has not since had any other near misses, thank god! Her other cat friends are 10, and they've been pretty lucky, too.
p.s. I'm glad your Bette is ok. She's a lucky dog.

I'm afraid my cautionary tale didin't have a good out come. It turned out to be one of the saddest days of my life. My Cocker, Ashley, and I were in the yard. I was busy cleaning up some brush and I thought she was just playing. I saw her under the deck, but when I called her, she didn't come. There were some plastic pipes (PVC) under there and she had seen a small lizard or something go into one and put her face in it, when she pulled back, trying to get out of the pipe, she hit her head against a pillar and broke her neck. The vet said she died instantly. I hope he was right. I moved all the pipes after this, but of course it was too late. So if you have anything like this around your house, even if it seems too small for a dog or cat to go into, a face will still fit, so throw it away or put it up in the garage. Sometimes when I'm working in the yard, I sit at the spot I lost Ashley, and even though it's been 14 years, I still talk to her and cry.

Oh my gosh! You had me SO scared for a moment there. I hope that Bette is alright and not too sore. That had to hurt. My grandparents just adopted a dog that is 14 years old. It is one of the smartest dogs I've ever meant. There is something really special about senior dogs.
