Updates for the week:
1. Goldie, who is now "Monkey", is in dog heaven. He is the happiest and most comfortable that I have ever seen him. His new home is in the mountains overlooking Hollywood. I have to thank his new mom, Katie, for being incredibly patient with him. And, of course, I thank his new dad Mark and his pit bull soul mate, Bunny. Goldie lives in the "Melrose Place" of dogs. Upstairs lives his friends Buddy and Burt--a Dachshund and an English Bulldog. Katie's human friend Julie is a dream too; she (and her boyfriend) have helped every step of the way. 2. I've succumbed to my vices and bailed another dog from the South LA shelter. I promised to give myself a break...oops. I'm saving all the details for a larger post, but her name in the shelter was Trinity. She is 7 years old and the ugliest cutie-pie on the planet.
Here comes the begging:
I am building my own national deficit trying to save dogs. If you can help by donating, please use the online Amazon.com button to donate.

Goldie met the nicest young woman today at the Pet Expo in Costa Mesa. She has taken him to her home (near Runyon Canyon) for a "trial run" with her pit bull named Bunny. Let's cross our fingers. Goldie has been awesome at the adoption events. He charms even the toughest pit bull critics. Now, he needs the happy home that he deserves. Thank you everyone for your support. Let's hope this works out well! ((They have been calling him Monkey because he runs around like a little monkey))
Oh Goldie, Goldie. You're just too cute for La Puente to handle. I'm glad you had a nice vacation there while I was in Boston. Now it's time for us to return to adoptions and find you a real home. I guess I shouldn't have written you a love letter before I finalized your adoption.
Goldie was scheduled to be on the Fox channel's "Good Day LA" this morning, but due to the death of Terry Schiavo the Adopt-a-Pet segment was canceled today.
***However, they did tape a segment for Goldie that should air on Friday or Monday.
Sorry to those of you who tuned in this morning***
The Good Day LA program is on from 7-9am on channel 11.
in Huntington Beach, but no home yet for Goldie. I actually had a good time at the adoptions. People were friendly and supportive as they stopped to see Goldie and the other dogs. I was with my friend Cindy, who runs a dog rescue organization called "Diamonds in the Ruff". My new adoption strategy is to dress Goldie in a cute "Adopt Me" t-shirt and stroll down the streets in Beverly Hills and other trendy neighborhoods. It's time to break from the norm!
I've received a lot of feedback regarding my experience at doggy daycare. I'm putting together an e-book about how to evaluate dog daycares and pet sitters and all sorts of helpful tips. I can't give away all the details, but hopefully this information will steer people toward safer businesses than where I worked. Please keep e-mailing me with your experiences with dog daycare and hiring petsitters.
Keep loving the dogs...
Jon
It's been over 2 months now since I bailed Goldie from the South LA shelter. Rainy days remind me of the day I took him home in a torrential downpour, not knowing when I'd be able to find him a permanent home and unsure how I would afford his future veterinary care. Thankfully, I've had the help of a small army of friends and readers of this blog.
Goldie is currently staying at Bark Avenue in Downtown LA. They are an incredible facility that offers daycare and boarding for pets; however, they have an entire part of their business that provides dog rescuers with a safe haven to board their dogs while they await adoption.
I feel confident that Goldie is in good hands while he stays there and this weekend (weather permitting) I am taking him to adoptions in Huntington Beach. Last weekend, I took him to a home that I thought would be perfect for him, but the owners dog "Chance" did not like Goldie and actually bit his face and drew some blood. Poor Goldie just wanted a buddy to play with, but luckily the encounter did not break his spirit. I took him home that night to play with my dog Sunny in order to cheer him up.
Thanks again for your support,
Jon
