Post-Surgical Update

Just when it all seemed perfect, we woke up to a semi-emergency this morning.  Goldie managed to undo every stitch and suture on his body.  He didn't bleed too much, but it was still gross.  He had his Elizabethan collar aka plastic cone on his head the whole night.  I'm guessing that Goldie stood up on the baby gate in the kitchen and stretched his body until the stitches undid themselves.  Sounds painful, but we didn't hear him whimper all night!

The doctor re-sutured and stapled the wound--but my favorite part is that she sedated him!  Now he is "in the clouds" and I don't have to worry as much about him bouncing around.  He looks like he had one too many martinis, which I myself could use at this point.

The vet bill increased by $237 this time because of the tranquilizers and some other expenses that were left over from his surgery.  I'm surprised my MasterCard is still being accepted.

Below is a picture of Goldie with Chad after his 2nd vet trip.

For anyone who is interested, here is a link to his healing wound.  Be warned: there is some blood and yucky stuff in the picture.

Thanks again everyone for caring about this little guy.  I can't wait to find him a great home.  Please donate if you can to help pay the vet bills.  The link to my Amazon.com Honor Account is on the right hand side of the screen.

$10 Smile

I never thought $10 could make a person so happy.
It was the first donation via the Amazon.com online donation box.
Thank You.

Goldie's Vet Bill

Here is the paid receipt for Goldie's Veterinary Bill.
By the way, if you are looking for an excellent Veterinarian, I highly recommend Dr. Louis Schwartz at Overland Veterinary Clinic in Los Angeles.  He is simply outstanding and incredibly nice to his animal patients and their owners.

Donation Box

Close family and friends have donated $350 to Goldie's surgery so far.  I am amazed by and thankful for their generosity.  Readers of the blog have asked how they can help, so I found the easiest way to send money (rather than risk sending a check or cash in the mail).

I set up an Amazon.com "honor's system" account, which allows me to collect donations for his surgery in an easy manner.  The button to donate is on the right hand side of the screen.  I would appreciate any financial assistance for his large medical bills--which I put on my Mastercard =)
I am going to scan a copy of the receipt tomorrow and post it on the website (so people can see proof of payment).  Since I can only help one dog at a time, the donation box will only be active when I've rescued a dog and need assistance to fund its care.  Once I reach the donation goal for that dog, the box will become inactive and any excess money will be refunded.

The goal for donations for Goldie is now $200.  He is going to be at Overland Vet Clinic until Saturday, recovering from his surgery.  I visited him yesterday and he looked so cute with the plastic cone around his head, which the vet calls an "elizabethan collar".  He has minimal bruising and he seems as perky as ever.  I miss him very much, but I'm glad he's safe in the clinic and not wrestling around the condo with my dog.

Good as Goldie

Goldie_closeup_3SaveDogs has received over 100 hits in its first two hours!  So far, so good.  Now, for our first animal in need...

I don't know if they get much cuter!  This is my rescue dog Goldie and he is looking for his forever home!  I pulled him from the South LA shelter on Friday--the day they were going to euthanize him.  At first, I didn't think I could take him because I have my own American Staffordshire and I live in a condo with no backyard.  I had originally called the shelter about another dog I saw on their website, only to find out that I was too late to save her.

The animal worker I spoke with begged me to look at Goldie on their website and once I did, I knew I couldn't let this little guy down.  He is currently recovering at the vet from being neutered.  He also had a congenital defect with his foreskin that needed fixing.  Basically, his little "willy" was always exposed because the foreskin didn't attach correctly during his prenatal development.  The bill for the surgery was almost $600--and that is after a rescue discount!  I have paid it with money that I have in savings, but I'm also going to start accepting donations on his behalf.  I'm just not sure the best way to do that yet. (E-mail me if you have suggestions!)

Goldie is a purebred American Staffordshire Terrier.  He is on the smaller side and will weigh about 40lbs when I plump him up.  He is full of energy and he is great with other dogs.  Goldie is approximately 1.5 years old (but he looks about half that) and he loves to cuddle and give kisses! Please e-mail me if you are interested in fostering him or adopting him.  Soon, I will post a photo album with more pictures of Goldie.
